Pride fills Esgaroth. As a Bitterwing Falcon he considers himself to be a member of the highest race among God’s creation. While he has no particular love for good, he has a strong hatred of evil. When peaceful people are at risk, he will work to break all barriers of time and space to thwart the wicked. One individual humanoid is but a speck of dust on the landscape. But, their value increases when they are in community.
With a heritage of generations untold that have lived within the territory that includes Ravenwood, he knows the entire region of Ravenwood, Falton, and even Westar as well as a farmer knows their own small garden. With a love for adventure, at a young age he volunteered as a member of the Order of Falconers. He was assigned a young buck of a human who shared Esgaroth’ s understanding of reality. Together he and Christopher “Chris” Robin grew and learned and accomplished. Esgaroth served as the eyes and ears, while Chris brought strength and a flair for tactics. Esgaroth and Chris grew in devotion to one another, as is only possible when two work together to overcome great odds. With many successes under their belt, they were sent to the Far East to assist with a unified effort against a mounting darkness. After playing a part in turning that tide, they returned to Ravenwood for some much needed recuperation.
When they last left Ravenwood, peace ruled in the land. Remembering such, they let their guard down when they crossed the familiar borders, only to learn the hard way how much had changed in their absence. Lulled by the memory of safety, Esgaroth had gone ahead to be with his family. Chris did not find passage so uneventful. He was victim to a senseless massacre by a band of outlaws operating ironically under the name of the Falcon, though they had no connection to any true falcon whatsoever. These ruffians took Chris’ life in exchange for the handful of shillings in his pocket.
That event caused Esgaroth’ s life to take a dramatic turn, and it was not for the better. Esgaroth was paired with another humanoid by the Order of Falconers, with the understanding that this person, Elinor, would join Esgaroth in avenging his partner’s death. Elinor turned out to be a disappointment. Not because she was incompetent, but because she was distracted with the happenings of the town folk of Ravenwood, instead of the sacred task of revenge.
The last news of Esgaroth is that he has gone alone in search of the true power behind the Falcon’s band, in an effort to end the madness. Solitude in the face of darkness have some concerned for his wisdom, and his safety.
