The First Inaugural Ravenwood Battle Games

An event unlike any seen before in Ravenwood went off without a hitch. To the shock and adulation of its inhabitants, the adventurers that attended experienced temperate, delightful weather to accompany the celebration of Ivan’s 18th birthday. New faces and old joined together in a series of games, some experimenting with new garb and some overcoming physical ailments to join the festivities.

The day began with presents for the birthday wizard and singing of the typical tune. This was followed by a cut-and-dry schoolyard pick of opposing teams for a battle in the forest, culminating in a bottlenecked confrontation in which Ivan’s team prevailed. This was followed by a three-team race to a central location, filled with weapons with which to beat back the other teams. Even those that usually prefer to sit back during battles took up arms against one another. Dust was kicked into the air in the skirmish, creating a battle-haze through which the warriors assailed one another. It was a sight to behold.

Snacks and drinks were plentiful, and some fighters rested while other could practice their knife-throwing or be instructed in the art. The next event of the day was an escort challenge, in which one team needed to traverse the forest with a valuable individual to protect them from the opposite team, a group of bandits and vandals. Such fun was had that the adventure was repeated, with switched teams. In the second round, a pair of tricksters set up a crossing that required the adventurers to answer a riddle before they were permitted to pass and return to town.

The climax of the event was a three-way game of capture the flag. Some teams blockaded their bases with traps and obstructions. Trickery was afoot at every turn, with some teams hiding their flag and others setting out decoy flags. After sorely-won battles and a great deal of strategizing, Ivan’s team was able to hold their fort and capture the flag. Exhausted, the fighters retired for some well-earned rest. Through the rest of the afternoon, they enjoyed sustenance and games of archery. A surprise visit by puppies made the perfect bookend on a day of fun and festivities. Hope to see even more adventurers at RBG20!
